When Premier were looking for a website partner that could provide excellent functionality without limiting design, Volcanic were an obvious choice. A collaborative design approach, partnered with Volcanic’s market-leading tech stack, means Premier have ended up with a beautiful and unique website. The new site offers excellent candidate and client experience whilst showcasing Premier’s strengths in market specialism and giving them the tools they need to stand out in a competitive market.
We caught up with Paul Wheeler, Group IT Manager, who spoke to us about:
Why they made the switch from a previous supplier to Volcanic
The importance of our Bullhorn-integrated Candidate and Client portals which have changed the way they operate as a business
The launch of their employer brand "Be Premier"
Premier wanted to release a recruitment website that didn’t look like a recruitment website. With so many templated designs out there, the aim was to come up with something completely unique, that would ensure Premier stood out against the competition.
We were fed up of looking at these typical recruitment websites ourselves and so felt that our clients and candidates must feel exactly the same.
When looking for a provider, Premier didn’t want to compromise on design or its distinctive branding.
We needed a CMS that gave us flexibility and that allowed us to move away from the standard templating, and that’s what Volcanic could offer us.
While strong design was critical, Premier’s new website still needed have all the functionality that clients and candidates expect from recruiters’ online presence.
Volcanic has the great tech stack and the integrations we needed for both the client and candidate side. We wanted the ability to wrap our design on top of it and that's exactly what we did.
This was a unique project for Volcanic, which explored a collaborative design approach with the Premier team. The results absolutely speak for themselves with the final site demonstrating the strength of the Premier brand and offering a stunning candidate and client experience.
We wanted to be able to come up with the design and not be limited by the CMS we were going to use, so the collaborative design approach worked really well for us.
It was important to Premier that the impact of its brand shone throughout the website, with distinct and recognisable aesthetics on every page.
As a business we are very broken down into our vertical specialisms and we wanted the website to reflect that we’re not a jack of all trades. Everyone in our business is trained in their vertical and their social profile is built around their vertical so we were really pleased that we could demonstrate this on the website.
With Volcanic, Premier was able to get all the functionality it needed from its website, without compromising on the strength and value of its brand design.
While Volcanic’s collaborative and flexible approach to design allowed Premier to achieve exactly the look they were going for, it is the technical expertise behind the scenes that has had the biggest impact on Premier’s performance.
All in all, the client and the candidate portal were the important ones, they’re the ones that are actually changing the way we operate as a business
Premier’s new candidate portal has had a massive impact on the candidate experience, whilst keeping Premier compliant with all legislation.
The candidate portal we now have from Volcanic has presented a massive change in the way that we are going to approach GDPR. Anybody who approaches our business no matter which source they have come from, we’re now going to be pushing them up to our portal so that they have full control over their own data and full transparency of the data that we hold on them.
Not only is the portal improving the candidate journey, it’s also reducing unnecessary admin for Premier, saving them time and money
By using the portal, we’re going to reduce the amount of subject access requests coming in as well as the amount of people that want to be removed from the system, so it’s really giving that control back to the candidates.
On the client side, the new portal is boosting client experiences, reducing their workload and giving Premier the edge over their competitors, encouraging client exclusivity.
The client portal allows us to give our clients a way to manage their own recruitment workflow within a portal. This is a massive process improvement as most of the time this would have involved an end hiring manager with CVs coming into their inbox from numerous different sources. Now we can buy in that exclusivity from our clients by offering them a little bit more than most recruitment agencies. We can say, ‘we’ve got this portal and you can use it free of charge, but we just want you to work exclusively with us.
Premier have won 7 ‘Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For’ awards, so it follows that internal recruitment and employer branding were high on the agenda for the group when building the site.
Employer branding is huge for us. We are pushing a bigger “We are Premier” brand for our internal talent team. We are seeing more and more drop off with premium job boards and we’re not getting as much traffic from these anymore, so the idea for us was to build out the internal recruitment pages and link back to these from external sources that can push traffic back to sites, rather than relying on premium job boards.
The stylish and comprehensive pages within the new site certainly work to showcase Premier as an enticing employer, acting as a destination away from job boards that really reflect the group’s position as a top employer.
The website is your initial shop window! For someone coming to work at Premier this is where they’re going to land and it’s what they want to see, so we wanted to really showcase the incentives that we offer and the team culture.
