It took over a decade for Suraiya to “come out” as a Muslim in the workplace, however, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, and now she is helping organisations to extend their DE&I work to incorporate religious inclusion, to make people of all backgrounds feel welcome.

Suraiya grew up in a unique situation which gave her a unique perspective. We learn about Suraiya’s journey, and how one conversation she had at university put her on the business psychology path. Suraiya knew in her heart that she wanted to give more and make a real impact with not-for-profits and purpose-led organisations. This led her to start Diversity Diagnostics, which leads organisations towards eradicating bias within their workplaces.

We cover in this episode:

  • Why it can be so difficult to be open about one’s faith in the workplace

  • What was the response on LinkedIn when Suraiya announced her faith?

  • The signs that Suraiya looks for in an organisation that might be open to speaking about religious inclusion

  • Why organisations need to be thinking about religious inclusion

  • Top tips on how businesses and non-profits can easily get started with religious inclusion

  • Pushing through imposter syndrome and following your calling

Discover Suraiya’s fascinating story and learn how your organisation can begin to consider D&I through a new lens.
