1. SEO is king

2. Social media is your friend

Social media is one of the very best ways to promote your website, plus posting out regular content pieces, latest vacancies and news relating to your specialist industry.

Not all social media platforms work for every business, but don’t just limit yourself to LinkedIn. True, it’s the biggest and widely recognised professional network and it’s absolutely crucial to build your LinkedIn presence. However, some of our recruitment clients work very well with platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.

The key is to tailor your social content to the right audience and platform.

Twitter - It’s fast moving, so short engaging posts with imagery works well. You can also post multiple times a day as it fits the culture of the platform.

Facebook - More of a personal platform than LinkedIn, so keep content relevant for people, not necessarily businesses. Create posts that are interesting for people to read!

LinkedIn - This is a professional network, where the audience is looking to hear about your business news and your opinions on the current market. As recruiters, you know all about your industries, so don’t be afraid to shout about it!

3. Write content people want to read

Sounds easy when we say it like that, right? But trying to think of fresh ideas for blogs and social media can be difficult. Especially if you’re a small business wearing multiple hats… Running a recruitment agency, sourcing candidates, arranging interviews, ordering printer paper - all before lunchtime!

However, if you take time to write up interesting and captivating content, it will help your audience find your website and most importantly, give them a reason to stay.

Your dream candidate may already be happy in a position, but if they like your blog and interact with you on social media, they’re more likely to reach out to you when they are looking for a position.

4. Use free local listing ‘Google My business’ ‘Yahoo! Local’ and ‘Yell.com’.

One of the easiest ways to promote your recruitment website is to tell people about it! Signing up for Google My Business - This allows you to set up a business listing on Google and offer you an area where people can find your website easily.

Best of all - it’s completely free!

If you work in local recruitment, it would be a good idea to sign up to Yell.com the digitised version of the Yellow Pages. Lots of recruitment agencies sign up, especially if they’re trying to promote out locally.

How could this help? Well even if they’re no longer being posted out to every doorstep, Yell remains the UK's leading online business directory, with 84% of Yell customers say Yell.com helps their business to be found on Google.

5. Be creative with media

The digital world is ever changing and a big thing in marketing right now is video content. With the rise of social media apps such as TikTok and Snapchat, it’s becoming a great way to engage with a younger audience and recruitment agencies are producing more video content than ever before.

We’ve seen examples of recruitment consultants going on camera to talk about their latest exciting vacancy - and with great results! Video content speaks to people in ways that a job description never can and is a great way for consultants to share their enthusiasm and knowledge. This is something Volcanic has recently adopted ourselves, with the launch of Volcanic Vlogs.

If you’re a little camera shy, then videos containing clips, imagery or facts about the industry are a great first step into the world of video content.

And if you’re really really brave, webinars are a fantastic way to really engage with an audience and build up your presence as an industry beacon of knowledge. You can even host joint webinars with other business professionals in the industry to share your expertise, drawing people into your brand and website.

6. Network and join in the community

Just as industry conferences used to be the key way to network (and they still are!) social media has paved the way for a new style of networking for professionals and recruiters alike.

One of the many great features of LinkedIn is ‘Groups’. You’re able to join areas where people will share thoughts, ideas and news relating to their group name, plus it’s so easy to do. You can search for a term, and filter the results into ‘groups’.

You’ll see a list of existing groups you can look to join and start becoming more integrated with your industry community.

Can’t find a group you’re looking for? Create one!

Being involved in community groups like this has proven to be really successful for recruiters looking to raise their profile and get potential clients to take them seriously as an agency. And then having a best in class Volcanic website to seal the deal!
